Completed summer 2007, our 2-5 bedroom duplex homes are clustered in three neighbourhoods radiating from our timber-beamed common house, green-roofed workshop and peripheral parking area. The land is gently sloped and bright, with developing gardens, orchards, children's play areas, paths and ponds. These commons are accessible and naturally landscaped for use by our whole multi-generational community. Creekside Commons has also placed paths through an adjacent 4-acre park with a footbridge across Piercy Creek giving access to downtown. Respect for the natural environment has been a priority for all development decisions.

The land has been assembled, and plans for the units are being prepared based on the best principles and practices of urban cohousing communities. Some units will be available as rentals. We are located on the rim of Victoria’s urban core in the Fernwood district. It’s an easy walk to town. Because of our proximity to services and downtown, the Fernwood Urban Village encourages the use of bicycles and car-share. Sheds for kayaks and bikes are part of the common infrastructure. Intensive vegetable and flower gardens are a major component of the village atmosphere. A permaculture or green lifestyle is encouraged.

Terra Firma is a small cohousing project located in the centre of the city and close to the Rideau Canal. In 1997 we bought and subsequently renovated two three-door townhouses. We have recently built an infill between the two buildings which houses a seventh unit and our common space, which has already been used to host a great variety of neat events and activities, in addition to dinners. A solar hot water installation provides heat and hot water to the common space and three units, and hot water to an additional unit. From the common space we have also created a lovely walkout area that will eventually host a hot tub. Our large common yard has many shared amenities (play structures, treehouse, gardens, quiet sitting area, bicycle and storage sheds, composting bins, wood pile). Adjacent neighbours join us twice a week to eat. It's a great place to live!

We are creating a community for older adults (ages 55 plus) and have found a site on the edge of Saskatoon’s revitalized cultural core that meets our goal of locating within walking/biking distance of most of our needs. A charming bike and pedestrian trail runs the length of 17th Street and connects with the riverside trail system. We plan to build 20 homes with a common house and as much green space as possible. It is our intention to incorporate significant green technology in the design. Individuals or couples interested in our project are invited to contact us.
